5 Tips For Greening Up Your Lawn
A beautiful lawn is one of the most desirable things for people who have a yard. Here are five useful tips that will help you have a green and healthy lawn.
Mow the lawn frequently
Periodic lawn mowing is important to thicken the grass. It is better to cut a small portion of the blades more often, than cutting everything at once. Each time you cut the grass, make sure to change the direction of the cut, so that the blades are not pressed in the same direction.
Fertilize
Cutting grass eliminates nutrients that need to be replaced, to ensure maximum growth. The lawn needs nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, and these substances can be found in special fertilizer mixes sold by specialized stores. The dosage is indicated on the packaging.
Water
If you want the lawn to be green and robust it is important to water it properly. How often, it depends on temperature and humidity. When the grass needs water, it gets a gray-blue-ish shade, and the older blades begin to wilt. Planting drought tolerant grass is recommended as less water is needed to keep it looking great.
Prevent weed growth
Many weeds can be removed using mechanical means. If however - despite all efforts – they keep thriving, you must consider using herbicides.
Scarify and aerate the soil
In order to breathe and grow, grass roots need air. The soil is often not sandy enough and the lack of air may not allow the grass to grow properly, which is why these two operations are very important.
